Banjoe Vacations welcomes you to enjoy the Fall colors on the lake at The Nest! This property includes TWO HOUSES! The Cardinal Cottage, a one-bedroom cottage built over the lake, AND The Hummingbird House, our one-bedroom tiny house. You will have access to both properties, including a hot tub, SU Ps, kayaks, a canoe, and our pontoon boat (available for rent). The rooftop deck on the Cardinal Cottage is a fantastic place to relax, and the fire table means you can enjoy it most of the year. But that is only one of the many outdoor spaces available. Dine on one of the dockside tables or toast the sunset from the upper deck of The Hummingbird house. With so many different places to hang out, even large groups will be able to spread out. And bring the dogs! They will love the lake too.
More about The Cardinal Cottage:
This cozy cottage is built right over the water so almost wherever you look, you can see the lake.
Inside, the cottage is comfortably furnished with two pullout sofas, a dining table, and a full kitchen. The bedroom sleeps 2, and both sofas in the living room convert to beds, so the house can sleep 6 people total. There is a workspace with a desk that overlooks the lake, making it easy to take in the views while you work. The bathroom is supplied with toiletries and towels (no need to bring your own).
Outside, there are two dining tables, a gas grill, and a potbellied wood-fire stove. The rooftop deck has a large modular couch, loungers, a hammock, and a propane fire table. The professionally maintained hot tub is also available to guests.
More about The Hummingbird House:
Step right into this sweet and sunny tiny house and feel right at ease!
The main level features a cozy couch to enjoy evening conversation. The couch pulls out into a bed if you'd like. The small kitchenette on this floor is stocked with all the basics you will need to prepare simple meals during your stay. The kitchenette includes a microwave, two stove burners, and a mini fridge. Make your way up just a handful of stairs to the upper "bedroom". While there is no bedroom door, the turn of the stairs gives this space a very private feel. The super comfortable queen bed is the perfect retreat after a long day enjoying the lake. The upper floor also has a reading nook, or you can take your book out onto the upper patio to enjoy the views! From the main level, just take a few steps down to the full bathroom.
Outside there is another patio space with outdoor seating and a gas grill. This also includes a yard space with fire pit as well as private dock access-please follow the signs. The dock includes a canoe and kayak for your use as well as a stand-up paddle board.
Our pontoon boat is docked right next to the house and is available for rent**. We ask for $400 per day to rent the boat (they charge $800 at the marina!) and there isn't a better way to tour the lake. Ask us for more details.
* Additional note about accessibility:
We have one of the classic Lake Lure stone staircases leading down to the Cardinal Cottage and the docks. While being historic is nice, understand that the stairs can be a bit uneven and are not recommended for folks with mobility issues (see the photos). In addition, the ladder/staircase up to the bedroom in the Hummingbird House requires you to duck as you go up. Don't hesitate to ask any questions.
** Additional note about Lake Lure:
Lake Lure is a town-funded lake that practices sporadic drawdowns. The drawdown of Lake Lure this winter will be from November 1st 2023 to the end of March 2024.
Please be aware that if you book from Nov - April, depending on what the town decides, there could possibly be little to no water in the lake. During drawdowns, kayaks, the canoe, and SU Ps will be put away. However - there are plenty of other fantastic activities in the Lake Lure and Chimney Rock area during the winter season!
Distances to favorite area spots are:
Biltmore Estate: 45 min.
Black Mountain: 42 min.
Downtown Asheville: 50 min.
Chimney Rock State Park: 6 min.
Blue Ridge Parkway: 45 min.
